Most computers come with one of three operating systems: Windows, Mac OS (Apple) Chrome OS. Below is a quick overview in choosing the right platform for you.
Windows 10 is the newest operating system from Microsoft and known for its touch screen capability and is a real choice for gamers. You can have the flexibility of switching between tablet and desktop mode and have Cortana answer your questions. The cons is that it’s not as user friendly as MacOS and is less secure since its the most widely used platform of the three. The pros – since its the most widely used system, many more programs are made for it and the computers it comes on are much cheaper to buy or fix.
Apple MacOS Sierra is similar to Windows 10 but has a much simpler design, making it more user friendly. This platform does not have the touch screen option for laptops and has Siri instead of Cortana for help. It has fewer gaming options and is more expensive than Windows. It works well with iPhones, iPads and Apple watches. This platform tends to be less prone to virus/malware infections. Not many programs are made to work with this platform.
Chrome OS from Google, is the most inexpensive platform- it’s simple and secure but limited to what you can use it for. It works on Chromebooks. This device is strictly for web browsing, checking emails, chatting online or social networking and playing limited online games. Chromebooks are inexpensive, portable and offer a good battery life.
Note – Most of the programs made for one operating system are generally not compatible with the others.
